Wunderlist for Android Review

Wunderlist is a To Do list manager that can be used to manage daily affairs quite easily. It also has some collaboration features aimed at getting users to share lists between friends or colleagues. Accounts can be linked up and identifying icons can show up next to lists for the people the list is currently being shared with. Wunderlist is also cross-platform on desktops and mobile devices.

Lists and Tasks

The task manager works with lists which can be created to match tasks to categories. Tasks can be transferred between categories but do not use a tagging system.

Each task can have a description, a note added, a due data, a reminder alarm, file attachments, and have sub tasks added too.

Fast Data Entry Possible

Unlike with some other task list managers, once inside a list, it is quick to enter the description for a new task, submit it, then enter the next one. And so on. In this way it is a simple matter to enter 20 related tasks in a list quickly because the app does not expect you to complete each possible aspect of the task at the outset.

Collaborate with Friends or Colleagues

Collaboration is possible with lists which can be shared with others. Reminders can pop up to indicate when new information has been added on a task that is being shared with you.

Where Wunderlist Excels

Wunderlist can be used for a variety of basic tasks. It lacks tagging, so each tasks sits within a specific list. Therefore, the app is excellent with a list of regular errands that can be checked off, a checklist of items to run through before proceeding with a regular activity (travel packing list, list of medicine refills to get, etc.).

The software is probably less effectively with managing projects or irregular tasks. It does have collaboration features and sub tasks, but does best with fast entry of lists. Items can be hidden once completed (or struck through and still display).

Routine tasks can be completed, ticked off, and then hidden from view until the list is completed. Then mask the list as incomplete and start over with the next go around. So routine tasks can be nicely handled without needing to remember everything. One can just scan down a list, pick out the regular items that matter on this occasion, and mark them as incomplete so they should up in the active list again. Then run through all tasks to complete.

Data Syncing to the Wunderlist Cloud

Data is synced to the Wunderlist service. A name and email address is associated with the account. With the free app, there is no limit to how often data is synced to the cloud and between app versions unlike with other task list apps like Remember the Milk.

Widgets

Widgets are available for platforms that support it including Android. A specific list can be shown with several tasks in the list displayed. There are also arrows on each side to tap across to different lists.

Cross-compatible App Runs on Android, iOS, Windows 8.1 & Chrome

The Wunderlist app runs on Android tablets and smart phones, iPhone and iPad devices, as a Windows 8.1 app, and also with Chrome browser as a Chrome extension which extends its use to other desktops besides Windows 8.1.

The app looks equally good on a tablet display in landscape orientation, Windows under their app or the Chrome extension as it does the smaller phone version. The interface looks similar across all devices and apps so it is easy for users to access Wunderlist from any of their devices and stay in sync as they do so.

There are several free backgrounds which can be selected and then there are others which require an in-app purchase to access.
