Update 2.0 and 3.30 for PS4 and PS Vita will bring themes in the PlayStation Store plus other big features
In a pre-TGS (Tokyo Game Show) press conference that was held on Monday, SCEJ (Sony Computer Entertainment Japan) displayed a new feature that would allow PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita users to change themes on their consoles. The new feature will be added in the upcoming 2.0 and 3.30 firmware updates this fall.
In the press conference, Sony Computer Entertainment demonstrated a new theme that was based around popular PlayStation Japan mascots hanging around in a house and changing menu layers would result in moving into a different room of the house You can check the video of the demonstration below:
There aren’t any more details regarding the themes, but when SCE introduced this feature in the past for the PlayStation 3, users were able to change backgrounds, fonts and brightness.
Chris Owen (Playstation EU community manager) confirmed the upcoming feature for the PS4 in Twitter, and also replied negatively when asked if custom-made themes were allowed by saying that all themes will be distributed via the PlayStation Store.

The PS4 2.0 update will include another new feature that allows users to upload videos to YouTube, which will come along with dedicated app support. The other big feature that will be added in this update too is the Share Play feature, which was first announced in February 2013. In a few words, this function will allow players to pass control of their game to another player via the internet.
But there’s more; the “What’s new” activity board in the PS4 will be updated too, as Sony said:
“What's New will get enhanced real-time activity through friend-of-friend suggestions, allowing instant access to friends' and recently played games' broadcasts, and a real name search function will also be added.
More features to come when v2.00 is made available this fall, and we will have more to announce in the coming months.”
