In the recent past, Samsung won the race against Apple to come up with innovative accessories and released the Galaxy Gear smartwatch less than 6 months ago. Though announced with bells and whistles, the first wearable piece from Samsung turned out to be a huge disappointment. In fact, even the South Korean manufacturer has admitted that the device seems to be lacking something, probably in an unusual bout of frankness.

Gear 2 launch in April is only natural

Despite the fact that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch is an interesting concept, you can't help feeling that it’s half-baked. I mean, why would you even consider using it if you can't even access the Gear's best features unless you have a smartphone nearby? In addition, it doesn't even have an independent connection to the internet! Let's not forget that bulky charger designed to protect the device during battery recharge that obstructed the only button available; in my opinion, this constitutes a rookie mistake. In the light of these facts, I believe it's clear why Samsung wanted to scrap Galaxy Gear as soon as possible.

Gear 2 launch in April is confirmed

Probably acknowledging that Galaxy Gear doesn't have a future, Samsung officially announced the launch of Gear 2 and the camera-less Gear 2 Neo at the Mobile World Congress. The Galaxy branding was intentionally left out, as the new wearable pieces will trade the Android platform for Tizen. Hopefully, the new OS will manage to address most of its older brother's painful mistakes. After all, Samsung did invest a lot of resources and cash into the Tizen platform lately.

The new smartwatches will include a 1.63-inch display, 4GB of internal storage, 512 RAM and a single core 800 MHz processor. According to Samsung, Gear 2 comes with a new battery they claim is two to three time better that its predecessors. Last but not least, the camera of Gear 2 can be found near the IR port, while the mic is located on the body of the device.
