Today LG announced that it will be launching a new lineup of tablets that will run on Google's Android operating system. The new products, which have been named G Pads, will be available in sizes ranging from 7 to 10.1 inches.

The company is entering into a very competitive marketplace but experts believe that the brand name, cost and feature set could see the tablets competing with similar offerings from Samsung and other major tablet manufacturers.

New Lineup to Join the Existing 8.3 Inch G Pad

LG already had an 8.3 inch G Pad available before announcing the new size variations, which include 7 inch, 8 inch, and 10.1 inch screen sizes. LG has acknowledged that consumers need more than a one-size-fits-all tablet, as hand sizes and personal preference are important considerations. The 8.3 inch version was most likely launched as a mid-sized test to see how well the G Pad series would do before committing to an official release.

Different Sizes for Different People and Applications

LG is marketing the 7 inch model as the ultra-portable unit, while the 8 inch version is said to provide a mix of productivity and portability. The 10.1 inch version has longer battery life and a bigger screen which makes it a suitable entertainment hub, but the larger size may bother people who are looking for a touchscreen that is easy to type on within the palm of your hand.

Loaded with LG Apps

The G Pads will come pre-loaded with plenty of proprietary software and apps from LG, including Knock Code - an interesting screen lock app that lets you unlock your device using a series of taps (kind of like when you knock on your friend's door).

The tablets will also come equipped with QPair 2.0, which lets you sync your LG smartphone with the G Pad (via bluetooth) to receive smartphone text messages, calls, and notifications directly on your tablet.

Still No Word On The Exact Specs or Pricing

LG has been very quiet about disclosing any of the important specs, so we don't yet know about things like the screen resolution, processor speed, random access memory, internal storage, etc.

However, LG did say that it will be sharing this information in the coming weeks. At the least we can expect these devices to be WiFi and Bluetooth equipped and the specs will probably be similar to the features of the already available 8.3 inch G Pad.

LG Teases with Talk of G Watch

After announcing the new tablet lineup LG also mentioned its upcoming wearable computer, the G Watch. We don't know much about this device other than it will be available in either black or gold and that it will be waterproof with a scratch-resistant screen that never turns off as long as the watch is on.

LG has given the watch the slogan "ready for everything with a single charge." Of course, we'll have to wait a little longer to see what they mean by that, but it is safe to assume that it has something to do with a very impressive battery life.

Fortunately, the G Watch is expected to make its full debut next month at Google's I/O developer's conference alongside other wearables like the Moto360 smartwatch, which will also be powered by the Android Wear operating system.
