Retro RPG game Warcher Defenders goes free for the Halloween and invites you to experience its great gameplay during this fitting celebration. Normally priced for $ 0.99, it gives the players the chance to grab it for free so don’t waste time and go download it from the app store while you can. With its magical, fantasy setting it is no wonder that the developers have decided to make this move to please the fans and the people who couldn’t purchase it before.

In the distant past a war took place between wizards and fairies. In the end, fairies stood victorious and all the evil wizards were defeated.  Since then the spirits of the eight evil wizards have been wandering the earth and now they found new bodies and minions and their aim is to destroy the sacred towers and release their true power. It is up to you to defend the towers and prevent them from conquering them.

Gameplay

In Warcher Defenders there are three types of characters; the Archer, the Wizard and the Knight. At the beginning you can only play as the Archer and the other two types can be unlocked later on. There are also three game modes; the Story mode, the Arcade mode and the Boss Rush mode. Similar to the characters, you can only play the Story mode at first before you can continue to the other unlockable ones.

As a defender you can’t move back and forth, but instead your movements are restricted to shooting and moving u and down to the towers’ platforms in order to fight against minions that come from above. The controls are as follows: you tap to shoot, and you swipe up or down to move accordingly. The minions include bats, flying pumpkins, skeletons, snakes and many more weird creatures. Every time you destroy one, you are rewarded with coins and other goods that increase your health and more.

Upgrading is necessary because the bosses require more skills than normal minions do. Also, keep in mind that the game has no save option or checkpoints so even if you lose after defeating a boss and move to the next Tower, you will have to start over from the first stage. I know this may be a turn off for many of you but the game has a good reason for being created as such and that is that moving from one stage to the next doesn’t take too long, and considering there is a small number of towers, the game would be over before you realized it.

The bosses have their weaknesses so as long as you find them the rest depends on how well you can avoid their attacks and shoot at the right moments. Bosses include a Golem, a huge Bat, a huge Skull and more huge creatures. At the top of your screen you will notice your health and the tower’s health because the minions that escape you enter the tower and cause damage to it.

The enjoyment is very high and with 3 modes it is certain to keep you busy for a long time. The other unlockable characters are also a good reason to re-play the game once you’ve completed it because with their unique powers offer a totally different experience.

The only IAP present to the game is the one to buy the in-game currency but it is completely optional and there are no ads or waiting time before you can play a new game after a game over.

Graphics & Sounds

Fans of retro games, like me, will appreciate Warcher Defenders as its pixel art graphics are top-notch and there is a large variety of colors.  The BG music is 8-bits styled and fits the whole fantasy and magic theme perfectly.

Conclusion

In conclusion Warcher Defenders is an extremely fun game to play that will make it had for you to put it down once you hit the play button. Also it is prefect for the whole Halloween period and if you add to this, that it is free for a limited amount of time, there is no reason for you to turn your eyes away from it. Give it a try and you won’t regret it. Let us know your thoughts and impressions below.
