Game Review: Dominocity is the game for all domino lovers
Dominoes are so fun to watch even if you’re not the one setting them up. It has this calming and fulfilling feeling when you see them falling, especially when there are images hidden in them. Whenever there is a domino show on tv or I stumble upon a domino video online, I will stop everything I’m doing to watch it. For that reason, I was very excited to try a domino game in my phone for the first time and while it proved to be quite hard to master, it still managed to push me to try harder and not give up. I’m talking about Dominocity which came out on the app store only a few days ago and is already among the best new games for the week.
Gameplay
The rules are simple, you tap to position the dominoes and you hold and drag to rotate a piece. You can also take back a move by clicking on the “Undo Last Domino” box but you can only take back a limited number of dominoes each time and there will be cases that you might need more, so try to position them carefully.
Of course this is easier said than done and the result sometimes will be hilarious. Your task is to position your last domino at the golden point that appears at the end of the stage and then the dominoes start foaling automatically. To get a perfect score and be rewarded with 10 diamonds, you have to complete the stage, do it in under 30 seconds and use 10 or less dominoes.
Every stage has a different shape and to unlock a new set you need to have enough stars collected from your previous scores. With diamonds you can unlock new skins that make the game more unique and fun. The stages are very unique too and you will find yourself in a key shape and even a scull shape.
In-app Purchases
The game offers an ad-removal IAP for $1.99 which is tempting because the ads are quite annoying. Diamonds are provided in-game and you are also given gifts and the option to watch ads and be rewarded with diamonds and there is no IAP to purchase them.
Graphics & Sounds
Visually Dominocity is very detailed and especially the skins are beautiful to look at. The black background is also fitting as it helps you focus on the stage and to set the pieces correctly. The BG music is also well-chosen and has pleasant tunes.
Conclusion
If you want something different to fill your free time with, and you are tired of the usual types of games, then Dominocity will keep your interest for a good amount of time. It is a very straightforward game and the objective is very clear so don’t expect surprises. You are basically playing with dominoes in digital form and it is very fun and challenging.
