Apple Watch

Apple Watch is still a relatively fresh product in the market, and new contents keep being added through updates. When it comes to games, things are a little bit more complicated because users can't possibly know yet which games will be successful in their attempt to join forces with Apple Watch, and many (including myself) are skeptical about such actions.

The first game to make it to the Apple Watch was Rules!, a fast-paced puzzle game with cute animals, which is available to play as a whole, even though in a smaller-scale to fit the Apple Watch screen.

Asphalt 8Now, more game developers take the initiative to offer some content of their games on Apple Watch. More specifically, Modern Combat 5 (iOS, Android) and Asphalt 8 (iOS, Android) have both been updated with Apple Watch support, and although the features are limited for now, this is still quite big news. Gameloft (developer of both games) is hinting on more content that will come in the near future.

Modern Combat 5 has been updated with the following features. Players:

  • Can receive game notifications on their Apple Watch
  • Can sign-up for the weekly etc. events and check their progress
  • Have the ability to change class and even character
  • Have the ability to change and customize equipment

Modern Combat 5As for the new features of Asphalt 8, for now they are limited to notifications and wrist support.

More additions are on the way and we can only wait and see how this goes. I find it hard to imagine any of these games available as a whole on Apple Watch, as it would be impossible to play in a small screen, unlike Rules!, which is a game with a nature that helps it qualify for Apple Watch support.

The news are fascinating nonetheless, and we’re eagerly waiting for more developers to make that step, as Gameloft did.
