"Keep your CPU and GPU temperatures controled"
Overview
TThrottle is a system utility to keep a close eye on the temperature level of the CPU and the GPU. This works for CUDA and ATI cards particularly but may also be functional for other processors and processor manufacturers.
The package connects to the BOINC client which shows all the tasks being run through the computer and provides a streamlined way to manage them all.
The software will regulate the temperature levels of both the CPU and GPU. This can be very useful when the owner of the PC is overclocking their CPU or the GPU (or both). Besides that, different seasons and locations can provide different temperatures either inside the home or the office which are difficult to regulate. As a result, temperatures where the PC resides can vary considerably and at times be too hot for the computer's small fan to manage well.
With games-focused graphical cards, the issue there is that they pack a considerable amount of power into a small space. Such graphics processing units can have a tendency to overheat. Gaming is rather intensive as anyone with a smartphone who plays games can tell you when they experience the hot handset later. So this kind of utility certainly has its uses on new PCs, but also older ones with clogged fans or less efficient cooling systems.
Installation
The installation completed without any issues.
There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.
TThrottle requires Windows 2003, XP, Vista, 7 or 8 (32-bit or 64-bit).
Interface
The interface is colorful and dynamic with a lot going on at once.
There is no menu system, but the tabbed navigation takes up the whole of the top row of the application interface. The tabs are Programs, BIONC, Temperature, Graph, Rules, Preferences, Logging, and Expert,
In the Program tab, the core and set temperature of the CPU is displayed. The GPU core and set temperatures are also shown. The run percentage for the CPU and GPU are also presented to give a sense of the load currently on the PC.
The software displays how it regulates the temperature of both the CPU and GPU to ensure that they do not overheat.
Pros
- Monitor temperature levels for the CPU and GPU (CUDA and ATI)
- Control their variance and ensure they do not overheat
- Alarms can be set for different temperatures to alert the user about possible overheating
- Links up to the BOINC task interface
Cons
- Not a Con per se, but many features are not intended for the average user
Alternatives
Real Temp can confirm the temperature of core components installed in a PC.
Conclusion
TThrottle is an adequate temperature monitoring software package to regulate the core temperature of CPUs and GPUs.
