YouTube Planning to Launch Subscription TV Service

After Hulu and Sony, another technology giant wants to enter the market of subscription TV.

According to Bloomberg News, YouTube, is preparing a service called Unplugged, through which it will be possible to watch several cable TV channels via live streaming. This idea began in 2012, and YouTube developers began making the necessary preparations in the platform's code. The past few months however these plans are being given quite a lot of attention, and it is hoped that the service will be ready to launch by 2017, in order to avoid increased competition in the same field.

For now, there are several difficulties in making agreements with the popular channels, since YouTube intends to keep the subscription cost of Unplugged under $35 a month. If all goes well, it is very likely for it to offer a package with a few channels, into which subscribers will be able to "stick" more channels with extra costs. Unplugged might also offer special packages with a theme, (e.g. sports, movies, cartoons, etc.) with attractive prices.

Now that streaming cable TV has stepped into the subscription service TV market, it's expected that many interesting things are coming.
