According to Washington Post, the US Postal Service intends to bring a fitting tribute to the late Apple founder Steve Jobs by releasing a collectible postage stamp featuring the man who is still seen by most as the patron saint of Silicon Valley. Even though Steve Jobs is among the subjects approved by the Postal Service, the same sources state that the design is still under development.

Don't forget this is just a rumor

Assuming you count philately among your hobbies, it's understandable why you would get excited over the news. However, for the time being I suggest you don't get your hopes up too high. In case you're not familiar with how the commemorative stamps work, then here's a fun fact: the collectables and commemorative postage stamp designs are usually kept under a tight wrap by the US Postal Service.

Moreover, although the Post Office has a list of stamps planned for the next couple of years, they are subject to change at any time. Lastly, given the list of approved subjects for 2015 and 2016, Steve Jobs would be the only tech guy in the bunch, an aspect that doesn't really make a Steve Jobs stamp collectible. But then again, who knows, there could be other stamps with notable tech personalities in the coming years.

It will indeed be a fitting tribute

It's not the first time Steve Jobs would be posthumously honored for his visionary achievements. Jobs, who died in 2011, won a special Grammy Merit Award, a Disney Legends Award, he was featured at the US Patent Office Museum and on the Bay Area Business Wall of Fame. Assuming that a Steve Jobs stamp is released in 2015, it would constitute yet another post-mortem honor. Names like John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Harvey Milk, Charlie Brown, Hanna Barbara and Michael Jackson are also rumored to appear on postage stamps.
