Some Angry Birds Staff Fly Away to Create Best Fiends
Following the success of the Angry Birds phenom, some of the Rovio staff who created the bird game have flown away recently to create a new startup. Petri Järvilehto and Andrew Stalbow are the former executives who have launched Seriously Digital Entertainment Inc., a new game maker.
Their first game will be Best Fiends, (update: now launched for iOS, read our review). A deviously named play on words game which already has its own introductory page complete with basic snapshots.
The plot for their first game is based around the idea of tiny creatures of Minutia living happily until a strange force turned into many green slimy slugs that move around and green slime everything in their destructive path. The residents of Mount Boom decide to fight back though...
Mobile device apps are due for release in October. It is expected that Best Fiends will quickly go cross-platform as the makers of this upcoming game app expecting to grow the initial game into a series much in the same vein as Angry Birds spawned a series of titles featuring the birds in various disguises including as Star Wars characters.
It is unknown at this time whether Best Fiends will be offered free, but in-app purchase options are expected no doubt to unlock new levels and perhaps different weapons to fight back the green slime!
Already Seriously is operating from offices in both Helsinki and Santa Monica, CA, USA. Several of the game designers involved at Rovio on titles like The Simpsons and Max Payne are on board, plus other designers who have previously worked for Fox and Disney. Composer Heitor Pereira who created the Despicable Me soundtrack was also involved on the musical side. Clearly this is a top production by experienced game designers determined to make a major splash and develop a franchise game with more linked titles to follow.
