Lower fees and bigger storage plans for Microsoft OneDrive starting July 1st 2014
Just like Google did for Drive a while back, Microsoft announced that they are lowering their fees for OneDrive considerably starting next month. The new offer now comes with 15 GB free storage (up from 7), matching Google Drive's free storage plan.
The Office Blog also announced the change, adding that "While other cloud storage providers charge more than $100 a year for the same amount of online storage, we’re bringing in a full productivity suite too–with Office 365–starting at just $6.99 per month". This is the second important change that boosts Office 365 subscribers' storage plans to 1TB, for either the Home ($9.99/mo up to 5 people), Personal ($6.99/mo), or University ($79.99/4yr) subscription.
Other prices are reduced as well with 70% or more. The announcement states:
"The new monthly prices will be $1.99 for 100 GB (previously $7.49) and $3.99 for 200 GB (previously $11.49)"
Current subscribers will be automatically moved to the lower prices. New subscribers can Sign Up at https://onedrive.com/.
This makes the current OneDrive storage plans the best available offer to date. Both Google Drive and OneDrive now offer 15 GB of free storage per month, both offer 100 GB for $1.99/month, while OneDrive (temporary) wins the 1TB race with $6.99 per month versus $9.99 which Google Drive currently offers. Dropbox lags behind making us wonder if they can keep up with the OneDrive vs Google Drive vs Dropbox storage battle.
