Facebook is concerned about the flooding of the News Feed with news, and wants to change the environment by giving higher priority on more “personal” posts.

Facebook is changing (again), and this time it’s becoming more of a “family” service, since it will promote posts by friends and relatives, while reducing the presence of publishers.

The reason for this huge change is the users’ complaints that they do not see often enough new updates by people from their close environment (i.e. friends and relatives). This is the latest announcement regarding the platform’s algorithm updates which have been implemented recently.

As you might or might not know, in social media services the “butterfly effect” applies- which means that even the smallest change can have a huge impact on the media industry and people, since Facebook is used by over 1.65 billion people every month.

Facebook, even though it has become the most important information distribution tool for most publishers, decided to limit their presence in the News Feed in order to help “genuine” posts.

“We’ve heard from our community that people are still worried about missing important updates from the friends they care about”. This inevitably triggered worries in Facebook that its users will gradually start abandoning it, and will look for new platforms to share their personal moments.

In essence, however, articles and material from publishers will not disappear entirely from the home page, but will appear below post made by friends or family members.
