Any.do for Android Review

Any.do Task List is a popular To Do list manager which is used by 12 million people so the developers must be doing something right. The same team also have their Any.do Cal which is a replacement for the Google Calendar.

The main thing that stands out about the Any.do Task List app on the Android is that it is quite fussy with its flashy graphics and lengthy boot up introduction before you can actually get to your tasks. This is okay initially but gets rather annoying when using the app intermittently throughout the day.

Task Management

Tasks can be easily created and separated and grouped into their own list. These lists can be shared with friends, a spouse, work colleagues, and more. This has the potentially to share To Do items with your partner in a “Honey Do” list and allocate who is going to perform them without needing to send SMS texts back and forth.

Date Management and Recurring Tasks

Tasks are displayed As “Today,” “Tomorrow,” “Upcoming,” and “Someday.” These sections on the main task list screen will change depending on what tasks have been entered with due dates. Date headers now expanded out will often have icons modified to indicate how many tasks are within the task list, as well as icons indicating phone calls to place or email to send out.

Tasks be set to recur over specific periods so that they don't have to remembers to be done every month or every 2 weeks.

Useful interface

Tasks can be moved around via drag and drop which will be familiar to most users. Swiping tasks will complete the task for you without the need to check a small box to do so. Shaking the phone can remove a task from a list.

Audio Dictation and Auto Correction

Tasks can now be spoken into the device to add them with the app doing its best to understand the spoken word. Entered text also uses an auto-correction and auto-suggestion feature in order to help correct typing mistakes and save on typing by suggesting words as they are initially typed.

Adding Attachments

The Notes section adds many linked icons at the bottom to quickly add new items to a task.

With any task an audio clip, video clip, or useful photo can be added. Dropbox files can also be linked in which provides full access to a larger repository of your files.

Unlimited Sync

Data is synced to the Any.do servers on a regular basis which makes it easy to see the latest tasks list across multiple platforms and between users sharing lists too.

Collaboration

Tasks and task lists can be used to share them with others. These were features added late in 2013 by Any.do in response to other task managers adding similar features at the time.

People using the Any.do Task List app can link their lists and tasks with others users. This way everything from a party planning event to wedding to a birthday can be planned in a collaborative way by the people involved.

The Any.Do Talk List Android app is available at the Google Play store. There is an iOS version for owners of iPhones and iPads. There is also an extension available for Chrome which adds desktop access to the Any.do Tasks stored.

There is also a Any.do Widget app created by a third party which adds some nice widgets to the home screens for Android displaying Any.do Task information.

Verdict

Any.do Task List is a good application for user who wish to collaborate. The interface is pretty but is also overly fussy in places. Notes and attachment support is strong. It depends what you like as to whether Any.do is a good fit for your life.
