Overview

Collecting stuff is one of the most usual hobbies people have, and Flin4Cell is one simple software that will keep your collections organized. With it you can keep a list of all your collected items and their properties, such as recipes, music albums, books, movies, postcards and many others.

Installation

A typical software installation procedure is performed in order to install the program on your computer. There is nothing there you would need to keep an eye out for, except for maybe one step where you are asked what type of installation you’d like to make. You can choose between Typical, Minimal and Custom. It doesn’t matter which one you choose, because there are no additional features to be installed. You could pick Custom if you want to change installation directory, but other than that they’re all the same.

All versions of Windows are supported.

Interface

The interface lacks a lot of elements that could make it attractive. In the main window, which has a fixed size that takes up most of your screen, you will find all the available features in 9 buttons: Help, About, License/Registration, File Configuration, File Management, Internet Configuration, Options, Utility and Exit. It’s a little troublesome working with the program, since it’s not easy to navigate from one feature to another. The FlinSoft logo is shown in the central part of the main window, along with some helpful links.

Pros

There are many default categories with predefined text boxes that you can use instead of creating your own ones: action figures, books, CD, coins - banknotes, comics, credit cards, electronic equipment, expiration dates, movies, magazines, postcards, recipes, stamps, telephone cards and video games. Each category has many text boxes where you can enter information about each item. You can edit those text boxes, or add your own if you wish.

Flin4Cell is also available in Italian.

Cons

Really bad interface. It is very hard to fiddle around with different options, since a new window opens for everything you do - which can be pretty frustrating. The main window is too big for the screen, and cannot be resized. Many other glitches appear here and there. In addition, it is objectively overpriced.

Alternatives

This one is a very unique program, but similar applications for saving different kinds of information exist. One of them is Incollector (free), which gives you the ability to add and edit entries with data, as well as tag them for easy finding. Evernote has about the same functionality, but unlike Incollector, it isn’t free.

Conclusion

This software is definitely not used for professional purposes, and it’s questionable if anyone should even pay for it. Check out the free trial, but in my own humble opinion, it is better to let it expire rather than pay for it.
