Overview

VolumeLock is a nice audio utility that adds far greater control to what sounds will play within Windows and how loudly they will be able to play. The software lets the user create their own unique set of customized rules for different sound packages. Recording controls for different applications can be set specifically to tailor their use to your needs and then adjusted as needed thereafter. The settings can be changed and then locked out. This will then prevent other applications from adjusting the sound automatically and messing up your own audio settings again which can be quite annoying. There is a lock function which can create this set sound setting, plus a scheduler for different control settings at different times, and a command line option to be able to programmatically adjust rule sets.

Installation

The installation went fine with VolumeLock. There were no extra malicious content added.

Interface

The VolumeLock program shows the currently selected preset at the top as a drop down list with many choices to pick from. There is an Apply button to the right of the list so when a new choice has been selected it can be immediately applied. If the preset is not to your liking, just click on the drop down list to select a different one. Volume, balance and mute settings can be adjusted for each program. CD player, CD digital, and many other individual sound settings can be set so that each program is finally controlled from an audio perspective.

The layout is a bit plain Jane, but no complaints otherwise.

Conclusion

VolumeLock provides a detailed level of control over virtually every facet of sound control. Rather than relying on the Sound applet that comes with the Windows Control Panel, this software takes things to a whole new level. Mute sounds, adjust the volume down on specific sounds elements for individual programs and lock out the settings so that the program cannot adjust them without your agreement. VolumeLock can provide a level of audio control that is never usually seen in a single app.
