Overview

SoftCab Whois is a useful program mainly for people who choose to enter into the domaining field where they actively invest in the ownership of domains.

The software can perform a WHOIS lookup on domain records to see who the domain name is registered to, their contact details, admin contact, when the domain was first registered, when it was last updated and when it is due to expire.

The software can keep a record of all domains necessary to monitor and then remind the user when a domain is coming up for renewal. This provides an additional reminder beyond the usual email reminder sent from the domain registrar which can easily get lost in the mass of email being received or accidentally slip into the junk mail folder and never be seen.

Add notes relating to each domain. This can be helpful for domain and web site owners who wish to keep notes in a digital format and kept in a central location. It is also possible to save the related links, usernames and passwords relating to domains in order to help manage web sites and domain registrar accounts.

There is a Watch List feature to add domains that are wanted for the future. The list can be kept updated automatically keeping an eye on when each domain comes up for renewal and whether a desired domain becomes available.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.

Interface

The interface is fairly basic and not especially modern either, but it gets the job done.

There are categories down the left size and to the right is the main viewing pane. Using the category selection it is possible to create a Watch List of domains to look for, keep an eye on the details of domains already owned, and perform a number of other useful actions relating to WHOIS searches.
