Quick Review
"Assembly Language Quick Shutdown Utility"
Slam is a lightweight, efficient command-line tool for performing a variety of shutdown operations on Windows machines. Written in Assembly Language, Slam boasts fast execution and minimal system impact. It offers a range of options for shutting down, restarting, logging off, powering down, suspending, and hibernating your computer, and can also be used for remotely shutting down other computers on your network.
Installation of Slam is straightforward, requiring only the execution of the "Setup.exe" file and following the instructions. To remove Slam, simply use the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control Panel, or delete the Slam folder. Sinner Computing, the developers of Slam, do not store any data in the Windows directory.
Slam can be used simply by executing it, which will shut down the Windows machine. However, it also offers a range of options to fine-tune its behavior. The "Warn" option gives a ten-second warning prior to closing Windows and offers the option to cancel. The "Wait" option waits for confirmation prior to closing Windows and also offers the option to cancel. The "Shut" option shuts down and powers off the machine, while "Loop" shuts down and restarts it. "Logo" logs off the current user, "POff" shuts down and powers off the machine, "Kill" forces the termination of programs (although this is not recommended unless necessary), "Remo" remotely shuts down another computer (although this may not work on default post Win2K installations), "Hibr" hibernates the machine, and "Susp" suspends it.
Sinner Computing goes to great lengths to minimize system impact, and Slam is no exception. The program does not use the registry, and the installer uses it only for uninstallation data. Slam requires admin access rights to shutdown the computer, but has no other significant system settings requirements. All of its program files are stored in the installation directory, and the program does not use the internet or have any CPU demanding functions. Slam has no major memory requirement.
Overall, Slam is an excellent tool for anyone needing fine-grained control over the shutdown operations of their Windows machines. Its range of options, efficient execution, and minimal system impact make it an indispensable addition to any power user's toolkit. While its command-line interface may not be as user-friendly as some other shutdown tools, its speed and flexibility more than make up for any learning curve.
