Review & Alternatives

"An useful tool for processing music files."

Overview

The RealTime Equalizer is a dynamic equalizer which allows the user to access as many as 300 separate channels to tweak just about any aspect of how the sound is coming out. Many audio formats can be equalized by adjusting the channels including WAV, MP3 and other file types. Determine what channels need equalizing to get just the right sound from the recording and the equalizer.

The software runs as a standalone version or it can integrate with the popular WinAMP music program as a plug-in to extend the player's capabilities. Both powerful amplification and fine amplification are supported with the software. Spatial Resurrected is also supported. Create presets when certain equalizer settings are achieved so that the channel adjustments and configuration can be used over and over. The interface is also skin-able but no skins are provided with the software at present.

Installation

The installer pop up with a license that needs to be confirmed first. Once past this step, a full directory tree is displayed for the user to navigate to where they wish to install the software. A drive drop down list is there to allow the user to change the drive to use for the installation. Only 1.2 MB of free space is needed to complete the installation.

The user then has a choice to make. Do they want to run the program as a standalone equalizer or as a WinAMP plug-in?

Create a Start menu entry and then a shortcut icon.

There are then some further instructions for users who opted to use RealTime Equalizer as a WinAMP plug-in and not a standalone application.

Finally, there is the option to view either the HTML or text file with notes about the application and installation.

No malicious software or annoying adware was included in the setup process.

Interface

The interface uses a lot of green. Many equalizer channels can be displayed at once and each has a slider that can be adjusted up or down to suit. There are then options that can be brought up to change channels, add new tracks and so on.

Pros

  • Graphic equalizer for up to 300 separate channels
  • Select the channels to use for equalization
  • Install as a standalone package or a WinAMP plug-in
  • Spatial resurrection supported
  • Create presets when channels are set to the user's liking
  • Equalize WAV, MP3, and other audio formats

Cons

With 300 audio channels, it could be a little overwhelming for some users who just don't know where to start first.

Conclusion

RealTime Equalizer is impressive with its ability to let the user change up to 300 separate audio channels and save the settings as a preset. When absolute control over audio playback is required, it is hard to fault the features on offer here.
