"Easily synchronize files and folders"

Overview

PureSync is a program to synchronize your data with other computers in a network or with an FTP server, or even between different places in your local system. Like many other similar software, this one allows you to backup or synchronize your files in the future using scheduled tasks, or define cases in which an automatic backup/sync should be performed (log on/off, file modification, etc.).

Installation

The installation is very easy to complete, as long as you have a slight idea of what’s going on throughout it. This means that you have to click Next a few times and make some basic settings - nothing too difficult though. Most of them are shortcut settings, except for a step where you’re asked whether you want to install a context menu item for the program. No additional software is included in the setup package (harmful or not).

Supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Interface

The interface is pretty simple, making the use of the program easy even to a newbie. When you run it you can see that it is essentially split into 3 areas: the top left one, which has a list with the available options for when you want to create a new job (New Synchronization, New Backup, New Photo-Sync and Transfer Files), the bottom left one, which shows recently executed jobs, and the last one which takes up the rest of the window and displays all created jobs.

A step-by-step wizard helps you every time you want to create new jobs.

Pros

You have a variety of options here, starting from a normal synchronization job, which needs nothing more than a source and destination folder; you can however configure the program to sync only files of particular type, or exclude certain files/folders. You can also enable automatic synchronization to be performed when a file has been modified, when the device with the backup folder is connected, when computer starts, etc. or you could schedule future updates instead. Before synchronizing folders, you can see a list of the files that are going to be synchronized and make any changes manually, if you wish. Backup jobs work in a similar way; just pick a source folder and define a directory where you want to copy them to. Then just wait for the process to finish. If you use the Mirror mode when creating backups, files that don’t exist in the source folder will be deleted from the destination folder.

If you want to transfer photos from your camera to your computer, then you can use the corresponding option from the main screen.

Cons

There are some grammar and syntax errors in the program and its website.

Alternatives

FreeFileSync (free), SyncToy (free), SyncBackPro (paid), Duplicati (free) and AllWay Sync (paid) are all products that do a terrific job backing up and synchronizing your data.

Conclusion

There’s nothing that makes this software stand out from the rest, however it keeps it simple without lacking any basic features; in other words, it’s actually pretty good for the average user. If you are the average user, try it out.
