Overview

Directory Report is a handy program that will show you all files and folders that exist in your hard drive, in a convenient way for printing and finding duplicate files. You can also rename files and show their information as well as save it as a text, HTML, XML or Excel file. File maintenance features are included too, such as changing date and owner of multiple files at once.

Installation

The downloaded ZIP archive contains many files. Extract it first, and if you want to make a full installation you should launch the file named “Setup”, whilst if you just want to run the application, then you can use the executable “wDirReport”. If you decide to make a full installation then you won’t have trouble finishing it, as it has very few and easy steps to follow.

It works under any Windows OS.

Interface

It has a very simple interface. Under the menu bar are a few buttons for easier access, and below is the main area where your files and directories are shown. On the left side is the explorer pane to navigate through the folders and on the right side you can see their included subfolders and files. The information about them is provided in columns next to the filenames, and contains details like date created, last accessed and last modified. There is also information about file size and total size of a folder.

Pros

There are many filters available for showing or excluding particular files and folders. For instance, there are file name filters, directory exclude filters, file owner filters or duplicate files filter, used to find identical files that exist in the selected folders. There is also a tool in the program that gives you the ability to compare two directories for differences in their included files. The results will be shown in a new window that will appear when the comparison process is complete.

You can print the list with of files within the scanned folders, or you can save them to clipboard, a text file, Excel file, Excel program, HTML file or XML file. Before saving you can set the printing options. This way you can pick what details you want to be included in the saved files, such as sizes, dates, duration (if media files are exist), comments, authors etc.

Cons

It has so many features that it will certainly take some time to get used to. If you are not experienced with this type of programs then you might find its functionality quite complex.
