Overview

Device Monitoring Studio is a logging software that can monitor several different types of communication ports on a Windows PC.

The software can act as a data monitoring solution to track data flowing over Serial, USB and Network communication ports. All the data that is logged can be analyzed and viewed discreetly on a PC. The log files can be saved and played back on any PC, not just the one they were recorded on.

All data can be tracked rather than only certain types of data. The data crunching is done intelligently to burrow through the information to find the real diamonds contained therein. Patterns can be located within Gigabytes of raw data

The tool can be used to view what data is flowing over a USB device. This can be helpful for hardware developers, software driver developers and other people who wish to track information coming selectively from a particular USB device i.e. a USB flash drive, but not a 4G LTE wireless modem.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.

Device Monitoring Studio requires Windows Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or Windows Server 2003, 2008 or 2012 (32-bit or 64-bit).

Interface

The interface for the Device Monitoring Studio is complex, detailed and overwhelming.

There is a long menu system with top-level options for File, Edit, View, Sessions, Bridge, Tools, Scripting, Windows, and Help.

Below the menu is a button toolbar which flows down to two levels due to offering so many options.

On the second level are quick access buttons for USB, Serial, Network, and All. This then changes what the user sees and what data is shown.

There are several separate panes shown side-by-side and occasionally some that overlap depending on what has been selected.

The interface itself has been artfully designed with color sparingly and cleverly used to enhance the understanding of different features across the layout.
