Overview

Carambis Driver Updater is a driver updating package that can search the internet for newer software drivers for installed system hardware. The package continues to expand how many drivers it can locate. It now supports 230,000 drivers from over 1,000 hardware producers.

Driver Updater will highlight which drivers are out of date, those that are more critical to update and provide a link to download and install the drivers. The scanning itself is quite quick and only takes a few minutes to complete including the check with internet resources to verify latest versions.

The package does have less functionality than its paid version.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues. The Ask toolbar is bundled with the distribution, but it can be de-selected.

Carambis Driver Updater requires Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1.

Interface

The interface is both colorful and helpful. The main Overview tab displays attractive graphics for different items like printers, CD drives, monitors and speakers, modems, graphics cards, etc. Post-scan, either a green tick will sit above each graphical image or a number will indicate how many drivers are outdated and need to be updated soon. A large “Check for Updates” button is shown below the graphics images to initiate a driver update check.

In the bottom-left are promotions to other Carambis software indicating whether they are installed yet or not. There is a button link for each. To the bottom-right is system information with the operating system, CPU and motherboard shown with a link to access more complete system information.

When drivers are discovered that need to be updated, they are listed with their importance indicated and either a link to download or install. Selecting a driver will provide more information at the bottom of the Updates page.

The History tab shows what driver updates have been performed previously.

Conclusion

Carambis Driver Updater is an excellent option to check for updated software drivers for a computer system. The package has a clear and colorful interface that is a pleasure to use.
