Overview

WeBuilder is a programming editor whose developers wish it to be a single solution for coders and programmers who use a number of different languages in the course of their business day. The application recognizes a number of popular languages including HTML, Javascript, CSS, PHP, Perl, Ruby, ASP, ASP.NET, Python and SSI.

There are tools integrated right into the software package which can validate certain languages against established standards like W3C. This helps to ensure that the content validates and therefore should be properly understood by any fully standards-compliant web browser.

Both HTML5 and CSS3 which are used in modern web sites to provide video players, dynamic content loading and other improvements to overall web page design can also be used with WeBuilder.

The software successfully highlights the syntax for a number of languages. This serves to confirm that the language commands were typed correctly (they won't change color to confirm the language unless each command is typed correctly) and also shows up batches of code written in different languages which makes it easier to flick through long web pages looking for the right spot to make a change. The languages which receive the highlighting treatment include HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP. ASP.NET, XML, WML, PHP and Javascript. There is also bracket highlighting which can show when a bracket has not been closed within the code and will ultimately cause an error.

There is also a file explorer to navigate local drives/folders and a (S)FTP Explorer to navigate to a web host to transfer files back and forth when updating a web site directly.

Installation

The installation went smoothly. There is an additional option whether to use Internet Explorer, as default, to display web pages or not.

There were no malicious extras added during installation.

WeBuilder requires Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or 8.

Interface

The interface has an extensive menu system, many small toolbar buttons, and a tabbed window system. Many files can be opened for editing and the number of tabs showing will expand to reflect that.

The syntax highlighting works particularly well and the support for Javascript and PHP frameworks is useful.

Overall, the interface is not markedly different from other coding editors so most semi-experienced programmers should feel right at home.
