Overview

010 Editor is a text editor with a 10 year history which is frequently updated.

The package performs a number of central functions and also delves deep within those functions. First and foremost 010 Editor is a text editor to work with HTML, XML, and text files. Unicode and UTF-8 are fully supported. Includes multiple undo options to roll back changes successfully.

Uses binary templates to make hex editing more superior. Rather than only displaying the raw hex bytes of a file, this editor can parse the file to a level, hierarchical structure with a binary template as its basis. Can work especially well with C and C++ language, plus supports the Java language too.

There is a Windows process editor which can look into program processes and modify memory in an effort to fix the issue. The disk editor can also locate and resolve issues with hard drives, flash drives, memory keys, and more.

Installation

The software required 33.8 MB of available space to complete the setup package. The installation completed without any difficulties.

There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup program.

010 Editor requires Windows 2000, 7, Vista or XP.

Interface

The interface is tightly-packed but can be understood for programmers. There is a long menu system and a much longer slim toolbar with faster access to important commands.

A workspace pane and an inspector pane are shown down the left-hand side of the interface. The main code display and template results for hex viewing are shown on the right-hand side of the application window.

The interface is workmanlike and focused primarily at programmers rather than causal users looking to edit their plain text document.

• Might be a little overwhelming for anyone who only wants a basic text editor that is a superior to Notepad, but doesn't offer so many features that the user does not know where to start

Notepad++ is useful text editor and programming tool that supports a multi-tab interface, program syntax highlighting and many other features.

Conclusion

010 Editor is an extensive programming tool that offers a great deal to the right programmer, but may be more than a casual user will need from a text editor.
