"Prevent data loss easily and securely!"

Overview

While many of disk imaging applications on the market nowadays are trying to come up with all sorts of options, extras and functions to differentiate themselves from the competition, the O&O DiskImage still incorporates the features that made it popular in the first place. Simple, fast and efficient, the application ensures you can easily restore your valuable data in case your machine crashes or the OS gets infected with various internet threats.

Installation

In order to install the O&O app, first make sure that you have Windows 8.1, 8, Windows 7, Vista, or XP on your machine. The other system requirements entail a VGA card able to support a minimum 800x600 resolution, 30 MB free space on your hard, 256 MB of RAM and an Intel II 400 MHz processor. Other than respecting the system requirements, the installation is intuitive and straightforward, the app does not incorporate malware or toolbars and you have the option of selecting the features you want to install.

Interface

The UI gets a face lift in version 7 as it is now easier to use and feels quicker. First thing you'll see is the start page with the main operations: Start drive imaging, Image of the changes (which creates an incremental or differential image), Start file backup, and Start restoration.

The top toolbar is the next thing you'll want to check as it has links to all the other functions of the program, all of them doubled by keyboard shortcuts.

The Tools section shows shortcuts to image operations such as reading, burning, mounting, and converting, Network and Computer operations such as mapping network drives, creating bootable disks, and more.

Pros

Version 8 has integrated the Plug-and-Play feature from O&O AutoBackup into the program for easier, synchronized file backups. It can also create Virtual hard disks (VHDs) directly and comes with a new wizard for creating images automatically.

Starting with version 7, you can now create a boot CD or USB from within the program itself. DiskImage now supports EFI/UEFI systems as well as BIOS.

Considering the nature of the O&O application as well as the array of features and functions it includes, you will be glad to learn that it is very easy to use. In fact, this app can be classified among the top less-intimidating apps of its kind, making it ideal for both beginner and advanced users.

Even though this disk imaging application may give you the impression of a program that includes only the basic features, a closer look will reveal that the software can actually perform all the functions you will ever need. Not only that, but it also creates images of your hard drives, restores data and archives files rather quickly. Moreover, the O&O software provides a wide array of security features, such as the 256 encryption protocol, password protection, credential certifications, etc.

Cons

While not really a limitation in the true sense of the meaning, some users would prefer an O&O software application for Linux operating systems and servers.

Alternatives

The most remarkable alternative app, which can perform similar functions to O&O DiskImage is the Acronis True Image Home application.

Conclusion

In the eventuality that you are still not convinced that the O&O DiskImage application is the best choice for your backup and file restoration needs, then we recommend you to take advantage of the 30 days trial before purchasing. The trial version grants you access to all of the features included in the paid version and provides the perfect opportunity to test the capabilities of the program. If you are a Windows user and are looking for a reliable solution to create backups and restore important data on your machine, then O&O DiskImage will not disappoint you.
