Wise JetSearch 4.1.4

Overview

Wise JetSearch is a local search utility that can help to make searching files within Windows just that little bit easier.

The utility can search through folders and sub folders to locate files in record time. File names or folder names can be entered exactly or the software accepts the use of powerful wild-card searches which leave out much of the file name if the user can only remember part of it.

Searches can be conducted against specific file types like DOC, ZIP, IMG, HTML and other types of files. This can act as its own kind of filter to reduce the number of results down so that it takes less time to wade through what was found and isolate the file that the user was actually look for.

The search algorithm is updated to boost the speed of the search results. Selecting a single file, right-clicking can bring up a context menu with over ten actions can be taken with the selected file.

Installation

The Wise JetSearch installation proceeded without any problems.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware installed with the setup package.

Wise JetSearch requires Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1.

Interface

The Wise JetSearch interface features blue and white only, with black writing used throughout.

There is a hard drive selection combo box in the top left area where the user can reduce the number of hard drives selected for searching. To the right of this is the main search box to enter the search criteria and a Search button to the right of this.

A link out to the WiseCleaner is situated in the top right corner of the interface.

Search results are shown on the next level down with pre-existing columns for Name, Path, File Size, Date Modified, and Type.

Once a search has been completed, the number of files found will be stated at the bottom of the search result, along with how many files and folders were scanned during the search.

There are also various links such as a Facebook Like button, and links out to the Wise Facebook, Twitter and a way to share the program with friends.

There is also a floating search window which hides itself at the top of the desktop. This makes it much easier to access the search functionality quickly.

Alternatives

Everything is a popular alternative that sits as a system tray icon and can be accessed almost immediately. Its search results are just as quick as with Wise JetSearch. Other options include Locate32 and SearchMyFiles.

Conclusion

Wise JetSearch is an excellent choice as a primary search functionality to replace those available through the Start menu. Many actions on a given file can be actioned using the context menu when selecting the file and right-clicking over it.
