Overview

The Wise Data Recovery package is one of the better data recovery utilities for Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8. The software can attempt to recover damaged or deleted files from USB flash drives, local hard drives, MP3 players, digital cameras, removable storage devices, and more. A detailed scan of a hard drive can be run which will generate a folder tree of all folders that have files which may be recovered. Clicking on a folder reveals the files which can then be selected individually for recovery. There is also a useful “Select All” option to save time by recovering all deleted files in a folder.

Installation

The Wise installer is easy to use. The package only requires 3.2 MB of space to fully install to a Windows system. Once the installation is finished, there are the options to run the software immediately or “view the introduce.”

Interface

The interface is nice and simple here. At the top left corner is the pre-selected hard drive (C:) which can be clicked on to drop down a list of alternative hard drives (assuming you have others installed or plugged in as USB drives). The Scan button is right next to this drop down list.

Once a drive has been scanned, the software will display a list of the files it has found which have been deleted and may have an attempt to recover them using Wise Data Recovery. The file location, file name, file size, last modifies, recoverability rating, and its path are shown. Once all the files that you wish to recover have been ticked, then hitting the Recover button in the bottom right corner of the window will begin the process for you.

The interface is very simple and self-explanatory making the software easy for beginners or system administrators to use.
