Overview

WinFF is a video file conversion utility that uses FFMPEG to make the actual file conversions.

The software offers many different video formats that it can convert a video into. This includes MPEG4, DVD, FLV, MOV, AVI and many others. Both HD and SD content can be suitably handled.

Beyond the video format selected, there are in-depth presets where the user can select from different choices. With conversion to MP4, the user can choose a 720p or 1080p MP4 file or a widescreen or full screen version of the file. For DVD selection there are many choices to pick between.

Conversions can be performed fairly quickly but this does depend both on the source video file and what file format it is being converted into.

The software is available for several platforms including Windows, Ubuntu Linux, Debian, and Arch Linux.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.

WinFF requires Windows OS.

Interface

The interface is a functional rather than a flashy one.

It has a minimal menu system at the top with top-line menu options for "File," "Edit," "Options," and "Help." Below the menu system is a row of toolbar buttons which make the main actions easy to access.

Files can be added which are then shown below the toolbar.

The "Output Details" section includes a drop-down list of video types to convert to, a preset relating to the video type, and the output folder location. There is also an option to choose the same source folder instead of an alternate one. The list of presets changes depending on which video format is selected.
