StuffIt Deluxe for Windows x64 (64 bit) 2010

Overview

StuffIt Deluxe for Windows x64 is a file compression program that can reduce the size of MP3 audio files, images, Office documents, and many other file types. The software can work with StuffIt X, ZIP, RAR and TAR file archives.

There is a drag and drop icon on the desktop where files can be dragged over to and dropped on to it to compress that file or files.

Backups can be scheduled to automatically pick up files that have changed since the last backup process and incrementally compress and back them up.

The StuffIt SmartSend feature lets the user decide whether to send a file directly via an email attachment or to include a download link instead. Files can be compressed before attaching to the email. A size limit can be set for whether files should be attached or not so to avoid email attachment file size limits for other users.

A download repository can be either a selected FTP server (not provided) or by using the StuffIt Connect service.

With the purchase of the software, the SendStuffNow secure file storage and delivery system is included for six months.

Installation

The installation procedure includes a number of settings needed to run the application. This includes whether to send attachments or a download link in an email, and also what file size is too large to attach. What file types are acceptable to add, etc.

A download repository can be used. This can be either a FTP server or the StuffIt Connect service. This is also selected during the setup process.

There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup package.

StuffIt Deluxe for Windows x64 requires Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

Interface

The interface is clean and modern, so it will not take too long to learn how to get the most out of this software.

There is a menu system at the top with menu options for File, Edit, View, Archive, Tools, and Help.

Below this is a toolbar with a row of buttons.

There is a tabbed navigation link row below that which changes what is seen in the remainder of the application window. The tabs are for Start, Quick Tools, Archive Manager, and Search. Additional tabs occasionally open up depending on what actions have been taken.

Cons

• The modern interface and file archiving approach may not appeal to all; some people will prefer to use a basic file archive package and manage things manually.

Alternatives
