Overview

StrongDC++ is a software package to connect to the Direct Connect peer to peer network.

The software uses NMDC and ADC communication protocols. It itself is a modification of the orignial DC++ program but includes new features and news. The software has been developed as open-source using a GNU/GPL license for distribution purposes.

The Direct Connect is a separate peer to peer file distribution solution similar to that of torrents or other file sharing options. It makes it possible for a passive connection to be established between two users on the Direct Connect P2P network. The software uses NAT Traversal techniques to get around network firewalls and peer to peer blocking.

The software can also download parts of a file from more than one user so that when one user goes offline, the file can finish downloading from another user. This improves downloading times because the client with the fastest net connection can be prioritized automatically over the one with the slower connection.

Encryption can be included in transfers between two individuals to protect the data being transferred being intercepted and accessed without either partys' consent. This also ensures that a local ISP is less able to block the use of a Direct Connect P2P network because the traffic is encrypted which hides the type of content being transferred user to user.

Installation

StrongDC++ installed without any problems.

The software requires Windows.

Interface

The interface of Strong DC++ is pretty similar both to other DC clients and also programs to access torrents.

It is fairly simple to run file searches on connected users using the Direct Connect network and initiate a file transfer between two users.
