Overview

Scanitto Pro is a robust yet compact scanning software that strips away all of the unnecessary advanced jargon and delivers all the features the average user would need. With this software you'll never have to worry about getting confused with your scanner's settings or messing up a scanning operation, and you'll be able to instantly print scanned documents and convert paper documents and photographs into PDF files.

Installation

At only 10.1 MB, the small .exe download takes seconds and delivers a lot of functionality in a small package.

When you run the installer you'll encounter the basic install wizard steps – choosing your language and accepting the user agreement. Then you'll be shown a copy of the version history to see what kind of updates have been applied to this version and previous versions. After that the installation is truly streamlined. When the install is finished you can choose whether you want to launch Scanitto Pro upon completion of the installation.

Supported operating systems include: All major versions of Widows – XP, Vista, Windows 7 and 8, and Windows Server 2003 and 2008.

Interface

The interface greets you with a settings menu equipped with 4 tabs that let you control general and advanced scanning preferences, as well as compression settings for PDF and TIFF files. Once you exit out of this you'll see that the interface is sleek and minimalistic, yet with all of the perks that the average user would be looking for.

Pros

These are some of the more interesting, useful, and unique features we found in our review of Scanitto Pro:

• Turns Paper Documents into Multi-Page PDFs- With Scanitto Pro it is easy to digitize any paper document and save it as a multi-page PDF file. You can also convert any image to a searchable PDF.

• Allows Direct Copying to Printer – Scanitto Pro makes it possible to directly copy a scanned image over to your printer so that scanning and printing becomes a streamlined process. You'll no longer have to scan a document or image and then navigate to it and print it – a few clicks will take care of both of these tasks at once.

• Converts Images to Searchable PDF Files – This interesting feature lets you scan a picture and turn it into a searchable PDF file. So viewing and analyzing the images you scan becomes a one-step process.

• Optical Character Recognition (OCR) – This is yet another high-tech improvement found in Scanitto Pro. The software lets you search through documents and images for specific words. So if you've scanned a newspaper page and you're trying to find a particular sentence within the news story you can use Scanitto Pro to digitally search through the scanned document.

Cons

The only thing about this tool that could be considered a disadvantage is that it doesn't have the highly advanced features you would find in advanced professional software suite. However, those are features that you'll probably never want to use, and they only serve to make the interface confusing and sluggish. So technically, that's not really a con in our opinion.

Alternatives

Popular alternatives include Simple Scan, VueScan, Scan to PDF, and Skanlite. However, none of the aforementioned programs have the same feature set as Scanitto Pro and we would venture to say that this latest version of Scanitto Pro is more robust and easier to use than any of its competitors.

Conclusion

If you hate the sometimes confusing and tedious hassle of scanning documents and images onto your computer, and you need a turnkey solution that is more powerful than the other light scanning utilities available, then Scanitto Pro is certainly a tool that you should consider including in your software arsenal.
