Overview

ScanWiz is a scanner application that can help users scan documents via a flatbed scanner (or other type) and save them as a variety of documents including an Adobe PDF file, compressed, high quality TIFF file, PCX, PNG, or JPEG.

Build multi-page documents through a process of individual page scanning which the software will then intelligently put together as one complete document once all the scans have been completed. In case mistakes are made with the scanning order on multi-page documents, the software has editing features to allow the user to change the order of the pages before committing them to a saved file.

Pages can also be scanned and appended to the end of an existing Adobe PDF file.

There is a useful double-sided mode for scanning one side of a document and then turning it over to scan the other side next. The software will then put the two scans together in the same orientation and correct order.

View convenient thumbnails of each scan and zoom in to view the close up to verify the quality of scan, and that the image is not blurred or unreadable in any way.

Installation

The initial download package is tiny because when the software is launched it will download a larger file from the internet. Therefore, an active internet connection is required to install the software.

The software requires 7.7 MB of available disk space to install fully.

There were no malicious software applications installed with this software.

Interface

ScanWiz has a toolbar at the top with a large Scan New Image button, and other scanning, saving and printing related buttons to the right of that. Adobe PDF files generated can be previewed before saving them even though there is a page preview for the scans anyway, which is a nice touch.

Down the left sidebar, below the toolbar, is the list of scanned documents. A scroll bar allows the user to extend further down depending on how many page scans they have already completed.

ScanWiz takes the fuss out of scanning a document, matching it up with other pages and saving it either as a PDF file or a graphics file. There are enough options including single, double-sided and multi-page support to keep most people happy.
