Overview

PureVPN Mac VPN Software is the software required to let Mac owners access the PureVPN service from their computer without needing to fiddle with some internal VPN settings to try to achieve the same result.

The PureVPN service offers more private access to the internet via 60,000 IP addresses, many virtual private network servers, and an encrypted communication platform.

The software will let the user surf the net while their data transmissions are being encrypted with high-grade technology to prevent snooping. The software tunnels from where the user is, with its encrypted traffic, to the destination VPN server then the traffic is decrypted and flows over the internet normally from that point. This has the effect of appearing that the user is visiting from a different city/town and country than they actually are. Local censorship can be routed around, web sites that block users based on being outside of their marketing reach can once again be viewed and sites like YouTube that block users from viewing content when visiting from an unsupported country can once again view the videos.

The level of protocol communication support within PureVPN is impressive with support for PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols. This ensures that different computer systems will all be able to make use of the software.

Besides this Mac edition, there is PureVPN software available for Windows and Linux, plus mobile versions for logging into the system from an iOS or Android device.

SmartDNS is used to quickly deal with traffic routing to ensure that activities like viewing videos works fast enough to still stream correctly.

The Internet Kill-Switch is a useful extra feature. Should the logon be lost and the PureVPN service disconnection from its server, then all internet traffic can be immediately stopped in order to avoid a data leak at that time.

Installation

It installs fine on the Mac and no additional unwanted software is included. The software requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later. There is a drop-down combo box on the PureVPN Mac download page which allows the user to select their Mac OS X operating systems as PureVPN offers a slightly different software package depending on the OS X version used.

Once installed, the package needs to link up with the PureVPN service by having the user log into their account. This can be done once a package has been purchased and a username and password setup from the PureVPN web site.

Interface

The interface includes six menu items down the left side. When any one is selected, the pane on the right will change to display a different set of options and settings. The default view is the Dashboard. The menu includes options for the Dashboard, Server Selection Tool, Settings, Billing, Feedback, and Support.

It is nice to see billing information options presented within the Mac application itself.
