"Automated process priority optimization"
Overview
Process Lasso is a package to help prioritize which programs (and Windows processes) should have the higher priority and which should not. Process Lasso is rather more complex than the Windows Task Manager and so takes a bit of time to understand completely.
There are optimization functions which focus on priority setting for processes, core optimization, rules for automation, affinity optimization and other options.
The software keeps an eye on running processes and inactive ones, plus useful bar charts keep the user updated on the current use of the CPU and available memory.
Resources are allocated to each program based on its requirements. The user can step in and make changes to ensure the smoother running of certain priority applications. This could be a web browser that keeps stalling or a video player trying to get through a larger than average Blu-ray video file while keeping the video and audio synced during playback. Whatever the need, Process Lasso is designed to make the best of the system resources.
Installation
The installation requires 16.2 MB of available space. The installation went as planned without any issues.
There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup package.
Process Lasso requires Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 8, and 2012
Interface
The interface is quite packed but fairly easy to understand.
There are some menu options lining the top of the application windows. Below these is a readout graph with processor performance. To the right of it are CPU Load and RAM Load bar charts.
The current process are shown in the next section of the application window. There are two tabs for All processes and Active processes.
An actions log is shown in the bottom pane, with buttons for Insights, View log, and search options.
Pros
- See all processes and active processes
- View CPU usage as a bar chart
- View memory usage as a bar chart
- Set priority for processes and their applications to ensure smooth running of each application
- Set affinity as well
- Create automated rules to ensure processes use the same priority and affinity setting each time
- Logs
Cons
- Complex package to learn.
Alternatives
System Explorer is a task manager replacement that includes the ability to set priorities for processes and remember them each time Windows starts.
Conclusion
Process Lasso is a complex task manager replacement that offers improved Windows process management, prioritization and management of system resources. Visually it looks more complex than it actually is.
