"A free toolkit for network professionals"
Overview
NetCrunch Tools is a free network toolkit providing a few useful utilities to professionals who haven't stepped up to a paid tool yet.
The software can perform a traceroute for an IP address or domain. This can be used to look up intrusion attempt information provided by another network tool. It is also possible to run a traceroute just to see how problematic it is to reach a specific domain and to see if there are any problems with network communication at the present time. The number of hops, which can include going through switches on the ocean bed across the Atlantic, is displayed with its IP address and how many milliseconds it took to make each stage of the trip.
The ping scanner is useful because it can check how often the network is being pinged by another server. A ping is a little like a radar ping that sends out a signal to see if it bounces off anything which indicates a position. The ping scanner can provide a good level of information about the systems pinging the servers. The DNS information for the other server can be looked up to get a better idea whether the server is internal or external. A DNS audit procedure can also be performed to provide some sense of proper oversight and procedure.
Domain names can be checked via a WHOIS look up took.
A TCP Port Scanner is also included.
Installation
The software required 81.9 MB of available space to complete the setup package.
There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup program.
NetCrunch Tools requires Windows XP or later.
Interface
The interface is very slick and well produced.
There are separate screens for the basic tools including ones for a WHOIS lookup, ping checker, traceroute, and more.
Pros
- Collection of free network tools
- Wake on LAN
- Ping checker
- Traceroute

- Attractive interface
Cons
- Nothing here that many other free network tools do not already provide, however the developer is well known and the interface is very slick.
