Overview

Nero TuneItUp is an optimization tool for Windows to help make improvements to the general functionality of the system.

Nero are well known for their CD, DVD and Blu-ray burning technologies, but lesser known for their utilities. However, their pedigree of quality software over the years lends considerable credibility to their other software efforts.

There is both a Free and Pro version of the software. When first running, the software runs through its paces to check the system and inform the user about what optimizations are possible. Both the Basic (free) and Pro optimizations are displayed to indicate what extra fixes are possible with the paid version.

In testing, the Basic version found 4 main issues whereas the Pro version discovered 8 issues. The four issues in the Basic version on the test system were the ability to delete some unnecessary files, clear the browsing history, clean up the Windows registry, and remove some programs. There was also a link to a Multimedia Data Manager.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.

Nero TuneItUp requires Windows 2000, Vista, XP, 7 or Windows Server.

Interface

The main interface with Nero TuneItUp is clear and well laid out.

The program initially scans the Windows computer to check what problems it can find. Both the Basic and Pro sections are shown front and center with a rotating timer and red bar chart indicating how far the scanning has progressed. Once the scan has been completed, the red bar chart will light up to indicate the severity of the problems and a number will be shown above to confirm how many issues were found. The numbers will be different for the Pro version because it is able to fix more issues than the Basic version.

The yellow “Show and Fix” button can then be clicked for the Basic version to see the number of issues to fix.

Below this area are different sections. One can turn on the high speed mode to reduce the number of Windows processes currently running. Another displays some initial system information like the CPU and motherboard information. A temperature gauge confirms the current temperature of the system and there is also a system load (CPU) percentage gauge too.

Alternatives

Advanced SystemCare offers a number of additional modules that make it far more extensive as a system improvement tool than NeroTuneItUp. Other similar software are: CCleaner, TuneUp Utilities.

Conclusion

Nero TuneItUp is a good clean up utility that can remove clutter, clean up the registry and make a few tweaks. However, it does lack the kind of extensive range of features offered by some competitors.
