"Great racing simulator from EA Games."

Overview

EA Games, the publisher of stellar Need for Speed Most Wanted and Underground, released the new sequel to the game under the NFS brand. This time, Need for Speed Carbon is not exactly an all winner, but it definitely is a solid racing game with outstanding driving experience.

The game is intense, stylish and thrilling.
NFS Carbon creates a fascinating adrenaline rush racing once you nail the throttle. The game is detailed and realistic in the dirty uneven road surface, cracked at times. The scenery rushes past your windows with some dazzling blurring effects as you speed up. Visuals are at par with previous editions of NFS, creating an intense realistic feeling of revving speed that pumps you in your driver’s seat.

NFS Carbon is no original in plot. It is a supposed sequel to Most Wanted, with little difference in the storyline. You go off in a crazy ride or die race to win the city. Clearly, EA developers took some popular ideas from the Fast and Furious hits. You have to take down turf bosses and their crews with the help of your loyal and selfless wingman. You win the city as you succeed in races. The typical alpha-male driver will find pleasing the abundance of hot babes, fancy cars, speed and violence.

Installation

Interface NFS Carbon offers dazzling visuals. As usual, you start the game with BMW M3 GTR which gets crashed almost instantly. There is not much choice after that. You need to rent some cheap cars to work your way up the ladder. Overall, amount of gorgeous cars is astonishing. However, the characteristics of the automobiles do not always correspond the actual prototypes if that is of any importance to you. For example, in Carbon Renault Clio runs smoother and faster than Lotus Elise. Apparently, factual back up is of no importance to the gameplay.

Pros

  • High level of customization allows online gamers create a highly personalized and recognizable car.
  • A plethora of cosmetic tune ups for the cars.
  • The wingman who does not mind breaking his bones to help you succeed.
  • Several playing modes which allow the freedom of racing choices.
  • Complete game immersion as you build up your career.
  • The Free Roam mode creates a real sense of location while the nighttime adds to the realistic feeling, especially if you play at night.
  • Choose the Free Roam mode for relaxation and unwinding.

Cons

  • The game gets too easy at some point as you gain experience.
  • Advanced drivers will end up winning most of the races in no time.
  • Hit the nitro, and you are the winner. However, the game gets better as you proceed, and the plot evolves. You will have to upgrade your cars if you want to win more races. This is quite easy because you are most likely to have saved enough money during the initial stages of the game.
  • It is incredibly difficult to do the drifting. Controls just are not enough to perform the maneuver.

Alternatives

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, NFS Most Wanted and NFS Underground are great street racing games, addictive and realistic.

Conclusion

Need for Speed Carbon offers a genuine racing immersion. Stock your car with massive firepower and gear up. The race types include standard circuits and sprints, with some blood chilling speed trap races. Drift races are probably the most challenging, probably because drifting in real life is difficult, too. Overall, NFS Carbon is a top-notch engaging racing game apt for adults. We would not recommend it for children due to the presence of violence.
