Overview

Are you looking for a modern yet simple program that will help you resize your photos? FreeSizer is here to help you achieve this and not tire you with an unlimited amount of fancy features and useless functions. It lets you resize your photos by choosing one of the preset profiles, which have pre-configured settings for use in online services or iPhone/iPod devices. Selecting a custom size for your images is possible as well.

Installation

The installation procedure is very easy and you will certainly not have a problem completing it. Just click “Next” a few times and the main process will begin and finish in a few moments. The setup package doesn’t contain any viruses, spyware and other types of malware. It doesn’t install additional 3^rd party software in your computer either.

Supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista and 7. There are separate installers for 32 and 64-bit systems so make sure you get the right one for your computer. The program can also be downloaded as a portable and used without installation.

Interface

There’s not much to say about FreeSizer’s interface as it has nothing peculiar or anything that stands out. It is split into 3 tabs: Profile, Settings and About. The first tab is where you add your photos and select the resizing profile. Double-clicking on an image from the list will open it using the built-in preview tool so that you can see how the output file will look (the same will happen if you click on the “Preview with selected profile” button). The second tab has a few settings, mainly regarding the custom profile and the name of the output file(s), along with a few other miscellaneous settings. The last tab will display some resizing statistics plus an advertisement.

Pros

There are six resizing profiles in the program, with the only difference between them being the output size: E-mail (800x450), Instant Messenger (700x393), Social Networks (720x405), iPhone/iPod (480x270), Original size- compressed, and Custom. The two last options don’t have a specified output format since the “Original size, compressed” profile obviously doesn’t change the image’s dimensions but only reduces its file size, whilst the “Custom” profile has a user-defined value for width and height.

Names of output files can be changed and have a suffix appended to them- the suffix is chosen by the user. Output files can be saved to the same folder as the original file or another specified folder and can have the same date as the original files.

The Custom profile’s settings allow you to pick max height, max width and image quality (low, medium, high or original). Other settings include keeping FreeSizer on top, minimizing to system tray and disabling size estimation of the new image.

There are a few statistics available in the program, such as the number of total images processed, total original file size, total reduced file size and total savings.

Cons

A simple program like that couldn't have any problems and that's exactly what we encountered: none.
