DriveScrubber is a little unusual for a Windows utility. It focuses specifically on drive data wiping either in part or in full. A drive can be wiped completely by erasing data. When normally deleting data, it is not actually erased. Instead, the headers to the data are removed so that the files are not seen as part of the hard drive. This is why recovery utilities can still scan all data on a drive and locate complete files, totally untouched, and then re-index them so that the system can find them again. DriveScrubber can help resolve this concern by actually wiping a complete disk with random information to fully delete it or erase only the free space, both of which would prevent another utility recovering files stored there. A boot disk can also be created to help wipe a system before a re-installation of an operating system.
