Overview

DirPrinter is an application to make it easier to print out a directory listing directly from Windows. The software can create printable documents in many different formats like Adobe PDF, Word, Excel and other formats. These can be exported, become portable and can be printed at any time.

The software displays the current drive directory listing in a left side pane and when a directory is selected then the files contained in that directory display in the right pane.

The developers are based in Germany. Unfortunately they have not chosen to offer an English or other language version, so the install application was only able to install using German. Whilst the interface is completely in German, a little study of the toolbar icons and layout of the app clearly indicate what is what and how to use the application. So what may be initially a bit off-putting is actually perfectly usable for non-German speaking users.

Installation

The installation proceeds normally. The setup package is configured in German only, so it provides the installation instructions in German right down to the button choices during the setup process. However, anyone who is familiar with setup programs will be able to figure out easily how to install the application without issue.

There were no malicious programs added during installation.

The software requires Windows to run.

Interface

The interface has been changed from one that looks more like a Windows default appearance to an all-white affair which looks quite slick. There are no shadows or outlines making this a move into flat design for apps.

There are some toolbar buttons near the top of the application window that include Open and other commands listed in German. The toolbar graphics make it pretty clear what each button will actually do.

There is a directory listing in a left pane and a breakdown of the files contained within the selected directory in the right pane.

The main export function is performed by pressing the most central toolbar button labelled “Verzeichnisstruktur”. This brings up a list of file types to export the directory listing into. These include Adobe PDF, Excel, Word, etc.

DirPrinter is a useful directory listing export program that can create a directory report in a variety of portable document types.
