"Freeware driver updater software"

Overview:

The Device Doctor program allows you to scan your computers hardware profile to find updated drivers that may make your computer and accompanying devices function better. Device Doctor is interlinked with over 3 terabytes (3,000 Gigabytes) of device drivers. More than likely, your PC hardware configuration will have updated device drivers available to you for download. In the free version, you're limited to just a few features, but we were able to download and install device drivers for our hardware with no problem. That's the main function of the program and it works without any limitations in the free version.

The paid upgraded version gives you a lot more options.

Installation:

The installation of Device Doctor is riddled with adware and spyware. In our download experience, the Device Doctor download file tried to install the AVG Toolbar, PC Fix Speed program, Lyrics Party software, Default Tab homepage switch, and the Sysaver Toolbar, all at once! You have the option of declining each adware inclusion during installation to make it a totally clean install. In the end, after opting out of the additional nonsense, we were able to install Device Doctor with no adware or spyware whatsoever.

Device Doctor is designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 driver downloads. There's also no special requirements to get Device Doctor to work as far as hardware is concerned because the download file size is quite small.

Interface:

The interface of Device Doctor is graphically based, straight forward, and to the point. You scan your PC to identify the hardware you have installed, then you can select the driver updates that are available to install. Device Doctor is constantly being updated with new drivers, so more than likely you'll find some updates for your hardware.

Once you click the Download Driver button, you'll be taken to the Device Doctor driver page to complete the download. Installation of driver files is generally fast and easy, with no adware/spyware installed along with the drivers at all.

Pros:

  • Huge Database Of Driver Updates - 3+ Terabytes (3,000 Gigabytes)
  • Totally Free To Download And Use For Everyone
  • Simple And Easy To Get The Hang Of

Cons:

  • Free Version Lacks The Additional Features Of Pro
  • In The Free Version, You Can't Back Up Your Files To An EXE Installer

Alternatives

DriverHound - This program is one of the highest rated device driver update applications you can get. It features a constantly updated database, and will scan and install updated driver software automatically. It searches a total of 15 device categories to ensure your PC stays current with the latest hardware driver updates. DriverHound by XIONIX is in direct competition with Device Doctor for top marks in this software category.

Driver Reviver - This handy software program was able to find 18 out of 21 outdated drivers. That's a pretty good scan score and the program overall looks pretty good. Driver Reviver has got consistently high review ratings from their customer base, meaning that most people are generally satisfied with the program itself. This is another good option if for some reason you don't like Device Doctor.

Conclusion:

With thousands of new drivers being added to the database weekly, Device Doctor is one of the best sources to find updated drivers for all your PC hardware. In total, there's 3,000 gigabytes of device driver files. More than likely, your current PC hardware will be able to be updated with new device drivers with no problem at all, and it's a real blessing that it's free to use this software for everyone.

The free version is completely functional to get your device drivers downloaded and installed, but upgrading to the paid version might be good for some people that want additional features like Tech Support. The program is constantly being updated all the time by the Device Doctor programmer team. All in all, this is a great free program that really works to get you new and up to date device drivers.
