Overview

DUMo is a software driver updating package for Windows.

The software can scan the Windows system and then check online for software drivers that are now out of date for the installed hardware components. If it finds any out of date drivers, it will then list them and provide links to download the latest software drivers.

DUMo is fairly easier to use. There is a refresh button which will do the heavy lifting. Detailed information about each component, manufacturer and software version number is shown for the devices that are using out of date software drivers. The software is also quick to pull in this information, not requiring a time-consuming scanning process.

This cannot be said for gaining access to the downloads themselves through which the software developers seem to have intentionally made time-consuming and rather cumbersome to encourage users to buy the premium version.

Installation

The installation completes without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup package.

DUMo requires Windows OS.

Interface

The interface has a scant menu at the top, with the main action below.

There are two buttons for “Refresh” and “Download” plus a CPU and Memory live graph running to the right. The refresh option simply rescans the system to check for any new software drivers that should be updated.

For each located software driver which can be updated, the driver name, the manufacturer’s name and the version number are displayed.

The user needs to click on one of the devices that requires updating, then click the "Download" button to initiate a download. For the free version there is a nag screen that appears and counts down for 20 seconds before opening up a web page. Once past this hold up, a download page will open up on the developer's site which think links out again to the actual software driver's download location.

It is not possible to select more than one update and open multiple download link pages at the same time. Therefore, updating a new PC can take quite a while.

Alternatives

CPU-Z can provide in depth information about the software components contained within the PC. The developer, KC Software, also offers SUMo which scans installed software for updates as well.

Conclusion

DUMo is an effective tool for scanning and updating hardware drivers. The tool does make downloading a pain to complete when multiple updates are required, but it does get the job done, eventually.
