Cheque Factory 4.8

Overview

Cheque Factory is a software designed to help you create and print checks without requiring too much technical knowledge or time. You can customize the checks according to your needs (for example add a logo or an image anywhere on the check, or change the check’s size), sign them directly using your mouse, transfer data between the program and other applications (Excel, Access, MySQL databases, etc.) and perform other actions as well. If you wish to prevent unauthorized access to the application can you password protect it and rest assured that no one will get his hands on it.

Installation

As soon as you launch the installer you will be prompted to choose installation language. After doing so the setup wizard will open and guide you through the installation procedure, which is straightforward and doesn’t have any advanced settings.

The program is clean from viruses, spyware, Trojans and other kinds of malware. No advertised software is included in the setup package either (e.g. toolbars).

Supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.

Interface

To create a new check you have to go through 4 steps. In the first step you have to make a few settings first, such as the printer that will be used, bank information and currency information. In the second step you must define the layout and positioning of the check’s elements (amount in numbers, amount in words, payee, date, etc.), and in the third step you must choose the data file’s format (optional). In the last step you can see a preview of your check and print it.

Pros

Cheque Factory is associated with all .CHQ files by default. Files created by an older version of the program can be upgraded to Cheque Factory v2 files by using the Convert feature (“Tools” -> “Convert…”). Browse for the file you want to convert, and from the window that will open afterwards select destination directory and click “Start”.

Cheque Factory can save the data from the check you created into one of the following supported file formats: .txt, .dbf, .xls/.xlsx, .mdb/.accdb and MySQL datasource. This makes it easier to work with other applications when you have to.

Your documents can be signed directly with your mouse (that’s pretty neat).

Logos, images and all kinds of graphics can be added inserted in the checks via drag & drop. Apart from checks you can also create business cards, greeting cards and other types of cards.

Supported languages are Arabic, English and French.

You can add a password to protect unauthorized use of the program.

Cons

Trial version is valid for 10 days only, and Cheque Factory is quite an expensive software.

Alternatives

Not many alternatives for this program exist, but Demor Cheque Maker (paid) is a software with similar functionality. Two other substitutes are ezyCheque (paid) and Quick Cheque (paid).

Conclusion

Nice software overall with many features and extended functionality. It could be improved however in terms of looks in order to become a bit more modern.
