"Access Manager is a FREE password management"
Overview
Using passwords has become an essential part of our lives, but memorizing so many of them and connecting each one with a particular service can be quite hard. One way to overcome those issues is to use the same password for everything; however that’s not only extremely unsafe, but most times not even possible. So, how about changing this idea a little in order to organize all your passwords in a secure way? Access Manager will do the trick by allowing you to store all your passwords in one local database which you can access by entering one master password.
Installation
Installation is pretty much straightforward and consists of only a few, easy to follow steps. No advanced settings are included throughout the process. The setup package is completely clean from any kind of malware and doesn’t install 3rd-party software.
A crucial requirement is to have Microsoft .NET Framework installed in your system.
Supported operating systems are all versions of Windows (both 32 and 64-bit editions).
Interface
The software has a very neat and simple interface that won’t be confusing to beginners. You can see on the left hand side a pane with a few buttons (New, Open, Delete, Find and Close) and on the middle of the window is a list with all the stored passwords. Selecting a password will show the relevant information you entered when creating that password. This includes username, password, passphrase, document (if a document is associated with it) and type (Computer logon, Document access, E-mail account, etc.).
Pros
You can create an unlimited amount of passwords and store valuable information for easier organizing. For instance, after entering the basic info for a password you want to create (title, username, password) you can then enter a passphrase, associate a document with the password, select a password expiration date, choose type (Computer logon, Document access, E-mail account, Instant messaging, PIN, Security code, Software access, Telephone services or Web site logon), pick sensitivity (private or shared) and also add any extra notes you wish to keep.
A unique feature implemented in the program gives you the ability to drag and drop passwords from the program to web browsers and text editors for your convenience.
You can search for a password by its title or description using the search box located on the top right part of the main window.
Cons
No cons here. The program worked correctly at all times and we have no complaints at all. It used to have compatibility issues with Windows 8 in the past but a recent update introduced full support with Win8 as well.
Alternatives
LastPass (paid) is a web-based password manager that supports Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari. In contrast to Access Manager, it creates profiles for websites and automatically enters the correct details in online forms and text boxes - logging you in with just a single click. KeePass is another alternative, which is open source and available for both Windows and Linux users. Both of the aforementioned programs require a master password to handle all the saved passwords, just like in Access Manager.
Conclusion
Access Manager is a really simple program with many capabilities. You can find other password managers with more complicated features in the market, but this software can do the same, equally good job.
